We are in 2018, and online shopping is the biggest thing right now. From food to laundry, flowers and cake, grocery to clothes; all necessities can be delivered at your doorstep in few clicks. I like this progression. Online grocery with home delivery is just another sign of growth of e-commerce. Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love to go pick my daily veggies from the market. But when I am pressed on time and cannot dedicate myself to drive to my favorite store, online grocery is my thing. As I am slowly beginning to get more busy with my work-from-home responsibilities and mommy duties on the go, it has become even more difficult to get to the store daily.

el Grocer introduced their app last year and recently launched their online grocery service through their website that is aiming to make grocery shopping easier and more convenient for you by bringing the supermarket to your fingertips. Their online delivery service will help you save time, cut costs and ditch your weekly/monthly trip to the store to buy anything from snacks, personal care, beverages, fruits and vegetables, home care etc.

Here are my first impressions from using their service:

  1. Once you enter your building or villa, the website picks up your location and select groceries that deliver to you in a slider of the homepage.
  2. Both their website {even on a mobile phone} and app are super easy to navigate, even when being a first time user. Once you select the store, you can start browsing through the categories or search for the items in a search tab. Add them to your basket and checkout.
  3. It is a lot more convenient than making a phone call and hoping for the guy on the other end to understand it correctly.
  4. They have both cash and credit card service available.
  5. My location picked up two stores – one that gives immediate delivery and the other, Union Co Op {which I chose} let me schedule my delivery. I really loved how quick I received my order within the stipulated time slot as mentioned at the time of order.
  6. The minimum delivery amount on the site is AED 50 and service charges range between Aed 2 and Aed 5 {max.}
  7. The food and product prices are exactly the same as in the shop.

el Grocer has a wide network covering aswaaq, Union Co-Op, Al Maya, 7- Eleven and 60 other small grocery stores additionally with delivering the organic food from Ripe Organic in Dubai and Mawasim in Abu Dhabi.

I was a bit skeptical at the beginning because I never called for a grocery without visiting a store, but after having tried their service twice in last 7 days, I am a convert. With spring break going on, my schedule is all over the place and am trying to keep Little A and myself busy with playdates and activities. A few days back, my pantry was almost empty and we also had a swimming class that day. So instead of doing a take-away, I fixed my grocery through el Grocer to have everything I’d need after we were back from a class. Isn’t that a super mommy win?!

Coming to this whole roast chicken recipe, it may look a bit fancy and difficult to make. The thing is, it is one of the simple recipes that you wont have to worry too much about or prep for but needs a good marination of few hours or preferably overnight {made from my second haul from el Grocer}. All you need is to gather some friends and have a beautiful night cutting into this juicy chicken. Or if you are a small family, save the leftovers, shred them and make some rolls or sandwiches with labneh, sriracha and lettuce for next day’s breakfast.
