It is hard to say when I started loving tea so much and appreciating each smooth sip, but I’ve come far from just karak or masala teas ruled in most Indian homes. In Dubai, tea is easily accessible. Whether procuring an AED 1 cup from cafeterias in Old Dubai to drinking it from posh and beautiful silverware, tea is found in many forms, catering to every class there is in the city, to your very whim.
Without a doubt, TWG Tea is one of the finest tea brands in the world, sourcing some of the most desirable harvests from renowned estates and directly from source gardens. TWG Tea has two salons cum boutique stores in Dubai which reflects extraordinary history and TWG tea’s quality teas. I recently visited their branch at Dubai Festival City and was mesmerized by their collection of teas from over 800 different high producing single tea estates from countries such as China, Sri Lanka, India, Japan, Morocco, Turkey etc. Alongside these, boutique also display an exquisite collection of tea sets that are inevitable. Ones that would add elegance to your afternoon tea at home.
Their decor is very polish – very prominent as you sit and listen to a delicate tinkling of silver spoons against the Victorian style tea cups, while inhaling scent of different teas from their iconic tea wardrobes sprawled across the entire store. TWG Tea has its own cafe on the first floor of the mall, where it offers visitors a chance to unwind with their cup of tea, together with salon’s best gastronomical offerings. Little A and I make sure to have a date once in few months and TWG Teas is one of those places that is sublime for formal meetings yet indulgent afternoons with family and friends. The brand combines their signature teas in various recipes weaving flavors into every aspect of the meal, like for in this matcha cheese cake. As we walked in during the tea time, Little A and I shared Fortune from TWG Tea’s set menu, which included an assortment of warm toasted vegetarian sandwiches served with green salad, three macarons, cheesecake from their patisserie selection and hot or cold TWG Tea.
My tea specialist recommended China’s specialty yellow tea which takes a unique step further in their production process, called “men huan”. Because yellow tea is rare, it is important to purchase it from a reputable source that deals directly with farms in China. There’s no apprehension TWG is a legitimate authority to get your cup of yellow tea in the country. Tea is quite a personal taste, so you got to sip along through many varieties to find what you like and that may take many visits, but who is in a hurry?
I have to admit, the presentations for both food and tea were lovely. And the surroundings made us feel very comfortable. Sandwiches were passable however, TWG definitely knows its patisserie and is known for their varieties of macarons. We opted for Bain de Roses Tea and Vanilla Bourbon Tea macarons – they were perfectly crumbly with airy shell and an aftertaste of pleasant tea leaves in each bite. Matcha cheesecake was quite a show stopper. Quite elegant as a dessert (ideal for sharing), it has right amount of sweetness and a classic blend of creaminess to a perfect buttery base.
TWG Tea Salon and Boutique was quite an experience for our palates and we still have so much more to explore, we definitely will be back soon.
